“Red eye” is a generic term that is used to describe infectious diseases within the eye. Here at La Verne Optometry, we are experts at treating all types of common eye problems, including pink eye and other eye infections.

We treat eye infections that are caused by:

  • Bacteria
  • Dry Eye
  • Virus
  • Allergies
  • Fungi
  • Dust
  • Contact Lenses

Symptoms of Eye infections include pain, light sensitivity, redness, discharge, blurred vision, and tearing.

If you have any symptoms, please come visit us as soon as possible or give us a call because eye infections can cause damage your eye. If the infection is superficial, it may heal without long-term damage. If the infection involves more layers of tissue it may lead to scarring and loss of vision.

Both Dr. Alva and Dr. Guido are highly trained in treating eye infections. They can diagnose and recommend the appropriate care for you without delay. Infections are commonly treated with eye drops or eyewashes and proper medication.

Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)

Inflammation of the conjunctiva causes “Pink eye.” Pink eye is often contagious and is supplemented with redness and tearing and/or discharge. Viruses, allergens, bacteria, or irritants cause conjunctivitis.

Most cases improve within 2-3 weeks. More severe cases may develop into more serious cases and can create permanent vision loss.
